Kunchacko Boban - Profile

PROFILE
He became an instant teenage heartthrob after his first film, the Fazil directed Aniyathi Pravu (1997), was released. The film was a huge hit in the campuses so is the soft hero among the teenage girls. His pairing with Shalini was also much appreciated. The euphoria he created can be matched with that of Sankar after Manjil Virnija Pookkal in the 1980s. Thousands of his photographs were sold major consumers being teenage girls. The bike he used in the film Hero Honda Splendor became a style symbol in campus. He stood out among the heroes of the late 1990s when the middle aged super stars concentrated on action films. Aniyathipravu continously screened in a single theatre for 225 days.
Following the success of Aniyathi Pravu, Kunchacko Boban was cast in movies like Nakshathra Tharattu and Mayilppeelikkavu. In Nakshathra Tharattu, he was again cast opposite to Shalini. Both the films were fairly successful. Then he played cameo in Fazil's Harikrishnans which marked the reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal after 9 years.
Then came a streak of flops like Chandamama, Priyam, Mazhavillu, Ingane Oru Nila Pakshi, Prem Poojari, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Sahayathrikakku Snehapoorvam etc. He had single success in the period 1998 to 2001 which was Kamal's Niram which featured him opposite Shalini for the final time. Niram was a rage in college campus. Dosth did fairly well, but in an age when Dileep had the Midas Touch, Kunchako's performance went unnoticed. Even he did not credit for the Sathyan Anthikkadu's Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka which went well in box office. The flops added with his poor acting skills earned him much dispopularity even in the campus.
After 2000, Kunchacko had only one hit in Swapnakkoodu. Though he acted in atleast 3 films a year, all of them floped in the Box office. Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Indrajith became the new youth ikon. In 2005 he got married and started concentrating on real estate business and is quiet successful. In 2006 and 2007, he did not act much. He made a come back in 2008 through Shafi's Lollypop which also starred Prithviraj and Jayasurya. The film did not go well in box office. In 2009 he is again pairing up with Jayasurya in Gulumaal. He is also cast in Kukku Surendran's Mirror which also feature Roma.
