Namitha was born on May 10, 1980 in Surat, Gujarat, India in a Gujarati family. She is the only daughter in this family, which consists of her father, a businessman while her mother is a homemaker. She has a degree in English Literature.Ironically, she recently confessed that she was not allowed to represent India in the Miss World Contest 2000 because she wasn't good at speaking english and that Priyanka Chopra was chosen over her. She then stepped into acting by making her debut in the Telugu film Sontham. Subsequent to that, She starred in Tamil film "Yei" the song "Arjuna Arjuna" along with actor Sarath Kumar.
