Mathews (Mohanlal) who owns a vast piece of land and he takes care of the farmland. An agriculturist by self training and from his father Jermias (thilakan), life goes on smoothly for him. The story takes a turn when the rich, scheming but silly real estate businessman Chandy (lalu alex) sets his eyes on their land and decides to own it by hook or crook so that he can develop a resort there. Soon, he gets things moving and knowing the mechanism, he starts applying pressure on Matthews through bureaucracy, the pollution control board, state financial corporation manager (Lakshmi gopalaswamy) and few others. But Matthews decides that he will stand up and fight no matter what.

Chattambinadu movie is all about Planter Virendra Mallaya (Mammootty)who is also a goonda with 37 criminal cases against him. When he goes to Chembanadu, in Karnataka, to buy a coffee plantation, he finds it overrun with criminals. So he takes it upon himself to clean the place up. Veerendra Mallayya, is a goon who is always dressed in white. The film talks about how not knowing a language like Malayalam, changes the course of life of this man. Laxmi Rai is back with Mammootty in this film. She plays Gauri, a village girl who confronts Veerendra Mallayya. Vinu Mohan plays Mammootty's brother.The action film would be laced with humor and loads of sentiments. Shafi is expected to work wonders at the box office again, with Chattambinaadu.

Lakshmi Rai is born in May 1981. She is from Belgaum, Karnataka.Her family originally hails from mangalore. She belongs to the BUNT community of mangalore. She has appeared in South Indian films, mostly Tamil language & Malayalam films. Most notably, there have been some media reports that she has been linked romantically to Indian cricketer Sreesanth and then also with indian captain Dhoni. She was also involved in some sex scandals according to media reports. She was a model before entering the film fraternity. She has modeled in several ads such as Bru coffee, Saravana’s stores and Fair and Lovely. Her portrayal of her role as Aarthi in the film Dhaam Dhoom was widely appreciated by the audience.
