MOVIE IN A NUTSHELL
The hidden secrets of an attempted murder are revealed through portrayal of circumstances that three different girl pass through in their life. Aswathy, a textiles shop employee, is saying with her bedridden sick mother. She looks after the family with her meager salary. Kartika is a girl who is bestowed upon lots of love and affection by her parents. Her life zooms into a crisis when she comes to know of the secrets of her father's profession. The third girl, Rohini, lives in luxury and have tramendously rich atmosphere makes her very very sad. She elopes with her very poor lover.
Her father engages hired hoodlums to get her back after beating up the lover. She decides to commit suicide. Aswathy's mother comes in search of indu sekaran, Rohini's father. Aswathy is actually an illegitimate daughter of indu sekaran. But Indu sekaran decides to get Aswathy murdered. The person whom he engages to do this murder is Kartika's father. He comes towards Aswathy as the messenger of death.
This is an essay on how three different girls from three different social and economic backdrops try to cope with their life against all odds. Their crisis gets deepend and dangerous due to the attitudes of their parents. The experience they go through prove that lack of love and affection is the prime reason that made hell out of their lives. Lack of love and affection leads one to violence and to destruction as well. Dalamarmarangal establishes that love is the one and only antidote to violence.

Also in the cast of this movie are Indrajith and Kalabhavan Mani.The makers of the movie have started their search for a fresh face to appear as the child artist in the film.Mammootty will appear as a cool daddy in the new film directed by debutante Aashiq Abu. Daddy Cool’ produced by Alwin Antony has also in its crew, Big B fame Samir Taahir as the cinematographer. Anil Panachooran, Biji Bal team will handle the music section of the movie.

The film is based on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s novel Hirak Deepthi. Dr. S.R. Nathan (Mammootty) is a world-renowned professor of Economics. A theorist to the core, he always harps on his pet topics of poverty and developmental issues that concern the third world. He is a loner who hits the bottle. Not a womanizer though, in his own terms, he loves their company.
But his close friend Bella (Ramya Krishnan) is more practical. She tries to identify herself with some of the stark realities of life.
Deepthi (Meera Jasmine) is a housewife who stays in the same apartment complex with her husband (Narain) and son. Her husband is on the lookout for a job. On his persuasion, Deepthi approaches Nathan.
Their chance encounter ends up in a complex relationship. But Nathan is unperturbed and quite unmindful of his ways. While Deepthi gets a feeling of guilt, Nathan just shoos it away. In fact, he is working on a book on middle class attitudes and notions. Yet, when confronted with real questions, Nathan loses ground — a reference to the pseudo-intellectual image.
Here, the director closely examines the disturbing relationship between two individuals. Deepthi is not able to pull herself away from Nathan.
The undercurrents in the minds of Deepti and Nathan, their tormented souls turbulent as the sea are captured on frame dexterously by Alagappan, the cameraman. Though the film does not give any direct message, it does hint at what makes or breaks a relationship.
